Anti-Social Bookmarking (what del.icio.us is now)

If you've read PYLB for a while, you've probably noticed that I've been experimenting with del.icio.us (which, like Flickr, is owned by Yahoo!) to display my links on the sidebar of this page. It seemed like the one social bookmarking tool that served my purposes. But in the past week, it's been on the fritz. As I type, the linkroll script supplied by del.icio.us is displaying my tagroll. That's a significant error, and it's making me think del.icio.us was a bad choice. (Then again, we have no reason to expect stability from anything Yahoo! does these days.)

So, are any of you using social bookmarking services? Which ones? How do you like them? I'd love to know, because it's a pain to keep converting all of one's bookmarks from one service to another. I just want one that works, simply, and easily plugs into my site and my blog. If I need to ditch del.icio.us and head elsewhere, where should I turn?

Here's the reply I got from my email request to del.icio.us support:

"Hello,

This is an automated message regarding your recent request for
Del.icio.us Customer Care support. Your message was received, and you
will hear back from us within the next 24 hours with an answer.

Thank you for reaching out to us. We look forward to helping you!

Sincerely,

Yahoo! Customer Care

**Please do not respond to this message as no one will receive it."

How very reassuring. Confidence = low. Can't wait to see what they say in 24 hours.

I still rely on a meticulously organized Firefox bookmarks toolbar.

Works for me.

Actually, I have a del.icio.us account that I use for all the random detritus that i can't figure out how to file, but I rarely access it.

The same thing just happened on all of my sites across several domains. No response yet from Del.icio.us unless you count the autoresponder.

I love me some Firefox, but it's not the only browser I use between home and work. I need a social bookmarking service that allows me to bookmark from any computer, any browser, and have those bookmarks automatically displayed (by tags I designate) on my blog, homepage, etc. I don't know of a way to automatically port Firefox bookmarks to widgets I've scripted into other sites. del.icio.us seemed to be the easiest way to do all of that... when it actually worked. The least they could do is email users to let them know there's a problem.

I know you like to coordinate your surfing through your blogroll, but Bloglines could probably do what you're looking for, but seems a bit pointless if you're not interested in the feeds. The Silverfuture blogroll is all the feeds from a particular folder in my account.

I rolled my own for the links page on bigsoda. I have little favorites buttons that create the links in a database and code that reads/filters them.

del.icio.us appears to be functional again. We'll see if it lasts a whole week.

I had a daydream late yesterday in which Yahoo! sold Flickr and del.icio.us to Google before caving-in to the Microsoft bid. I think I would like to see that happen in reality.

Confidence = still low. It's been over 24 hours and no word back from del.icio.us, per their automated reply.

As it seems to be working again, I'll stick with it for the immediate future. Especially since I don't have the programming chops that Big Soda wields to roll his own.

I couldn't imagine life w/out del.icio.us. Browser bookmarks are now limited to 20 or so links I visit daily. Also, I had no idea you were on as I read your blog via your feeds. Welcome to my del-network!

For the bookmarks you do keep in Firefox, I've been digging Foxmarks for auto-syncing them between my work and home machines. My del.icio.us feed was also wonky last week. AND, I still use Blogines daily for the actual feed content.
